Research in Cultural Geography

In geographical transformation and development studies, we deal with questions of livelihoods, marginalisation, migrations, institutional arrangements and power relations in peripheral regions under the influence of globalisation, postcolonialism and postsocialism.

With the political ecology approach, we study changing human-environment interrelations on various spatial scales. Our focus is on resource management, utilisation and perception of the environment.

Geography of labour is a research perspective that looks at how labour is embedded in social, political and cultural references and hence focuses on human beings. New modes of labour are important elements of social and cultural change and thus determinants of widespread structural change in regions.

The effects of demographic and social change on urban development are at the centre of urban social geography. We deal with ethnic gentrification, integration and social segregation as well as the consequences of climate change.
