Studies Abroad

Within the scope of the SOCRATES Exchange Programme we can offer you a place at one of the following universities:

  • Université Paul Valéry, Montpellier (France)
  • Université Joseph Fourier in Grenoble (France)
  • Università di Catania, Catania (Italy)
  • Università di Pisa, Pisa (Italy)
  • Università degli Studi di Trento, Trento (Italy)
  • Università degli Studi di Trieste, Trieste (Italy)
  • Queen's University, Belfast (Great Britain)
  • University of Salford, Salford (Great Britain)
  • Universität Wien, Wien (Austria)

General information

In general, the stay abroad takes about 10 months (2 semesters). Terms already start in September and end in April/May of the following year except for Vienna with a stay of 4 months only, starting in October (1 semester).

The stay at the partner universities can be especially recommended to students interested in cultural geography in their fifth or seventh semester, since the curriculum at the partner universities is organized in annual programmes starting in September/October. For Bachelor students we recommend the fifth semester.

It is not unusual that in other European countries as well geography is part of various courses of studies due to its interdisciplinary character (similar to our minor subjects).
Therefore we recommend to attend other faculties‘ courses in addition which can partially be accredited.

Participants of the ERASMUS programme will be supervised by coordinators at the respective partner universities, giving them an overview of the institute and assisting them with organizational problems.

Application

Available places for the following study term will be distributed by the end of the winter semester. Therefore, please inform yourself in time about the partner universities and the application details and take the opportunity to get information from other students who already spent one or two semesters abroad. Applications containing a résumé and certificate copies as well as specification of the favoured university are to be handed in by no later than January of the relevant year to:

Dipl.-Geogr. Bilge Tutkunkarde
Institute of Economic and Cultural Geography
Leibniz Universität Hannover
